Hello and welcome to the corresponding blog for The E6 Townhall Podcast. The main purpose of this blog is to provide supplementary information for the main component of our project - the podcast. What's the purpose of the podcast? Our podcast is meant to not only showcase a particular musician or band from the critically acclaimed Elephant 6 Collective, but also to cast a spotlight on individual musicians that regularly participate on the E6 Townhall forum. We also plan to throw some choice tracks from lesser known acts outside of the collective itself, but not totally outside of the realm of familiarity.
Most importantly, our main objective is to maintain the ethos of the collective.
What is that ethos, though? Elephant 6 encapsulates many things. It is a collective. It is a brand and a logo. It was, at one time, a functioning record label. However, more than anything, it is a place from which art arises. It is unpretentious. Perhaps Julian Koster said it best:
"I think what Elephant 6 meant for us is very simple: there's something pure and infinite in you, that wants to come out of you, and can come out of no other person on the planet. That's what you've got to share, and that's as real and important as the fact that you're alive. We were able, at a really young age, to somehow protect each other so we could feel that."
So that is what this podcast and its blog are meant to preserve. While that thing, that energy, inside of everyone is indeed infinite, it is too often ignored. The world that we share may not always be conducive to protecting us so that we may feel that energy and share it, but sharing music and art that comes from that place can inspire us. We, the ones behind this project, have been inspired by the Elephant 6 creativity, and our goal is simply to allow the strange beauty to continue to inspire - not only as artists, but as human beings, too.
